SO WHAT IS TOURIST INFORMATION RADIO?
Tourist radio is very popular in all states – There are Tourist Radio stations in lots of (mainly rural) towns in every state around Australia, Therefore why don’t you see them in every town? – It’s quite simple, it’s because of the lack of available frequencies (there are only 3) – Most large towns & cities have no available frequencies due to the fact that they are already being used by other narrowcasting (mainly profit making) stations such as religious groups, horse racing, TAB, niche music stations (i.e. Dance, Jazz etc.) ethnic groups etc. – We are very lucky here in Hervey Bay that we now have 2 frequencies available which we can use for Tourist radio – Our stations are located on the eastern side of Hervey Bay which are ideal for tourists to tune into if visiting or arriving from Fraser Island or flying into the area via the local airport – Coverage of our radio station (using a decent car radio) is from Urangan (North of the airport) with continuous coverage to River Heads in the south (which is approx. 17 km of road if using our two frequencies)
